London Southbank Engagement Shoot - Elizabeth & Craig - Hertfordshire Wedding Photographer

To me, London is the greatest city in the world, and despite it's size, it's surprisingly easy to hoover up several major tourist attractions in one short walk. Perfect for engagement shoots such as this one!

Elizabeth & Craig both live in Chicago, but with Craig being English they plan to marry next July at the wonderful Luton Hoo Hotel & Spa resort. Their recent wedding planning visit seemed a perfect opportunity to show Elizabeth some of the main tourist sites of London during their Engagement Shoot. Craig also showed his fiancée his old University stomping ground - Kings College London, just off the Strand.

Here are some highlights from our lovely afternoon together. Please leave a comment at the bottom!

Jessica & Richard Engagement Shoot - London Southbank

The weather for our Engagement Shoot in London was very much indicative of our summer so far, but we weren't put off and the rain passed over and the brolly could be put away. We undertook a short lap from Westminster across to Southbank, and down to Hungerford Bridge during which there are numerable great tourist spots. The rush hour foot traffic gave me the oppotunity to isolate Jessica and Richard in the crowds and use passers by in the composition of my images. With their Surrey wedding coming up in a just over a month, we're all getting rather excited now, so stay tuned for the wedding shots in due course!

Abigail & Onur Engagement Shoot - Oughtonhead Common Nature Reserve, Hitchin, Hertfordshire

Despite living in central London, Abby has family roots in North Herts so the couple were happy to come and meet me nearby to explore the many paths running through the beautiful Oughtonhead Common Nature Reserve near Hitchin. Their big day is right around the corner down at Hatfield House and I'm very much looking forward to it!

Melanie & Graham Engagement Shoot, Great Ashby District Park, Stevenage, Hertfordshire

Graham has a thing about swings. I didn't ask why. But he likes to collect photos of himself around the world on them. Luckily Great Ashby District Park on the outskirts of Stevenage had plenty. It also had some lovely fields and woodland which was just as well as this was an engagement shoot after all! Looking forward to seeing these two again in October!

Emily & Andrew Engagement Shoot - Bowyers Water, Lea Valley Park, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire

For Emily & Andrew's Engagement Shoot I wanted to try out a new location that would give us some unique images. Lea Valley Park covers a huge area of Hertfordshire stretching all the way down into London where it meets the Thames. Along it there are many places to park and enjoy the scenery and we chose the entrance point behind Cheshunt Station, where a short walk brings you out at Bowyers Water lake. We stopped for some shots in the orchid meadow along the way, and benefited from some lovely warm evening sun. As you can see below the results are quite impressive!

Nicola & Andy Engagement Shoot, RSPB The Lodge, Sandy Bedfordshire

Yes, yes I know it's another engagement shoot at the RSPB in Sandy but it's such a good venue that my couples all want to have their shots there! I can't blame them frankly as the variaty of backdrops is amazing. We arrived there unaware that the folk band 'Stornoway' were performing a concert outside that evening. Andy even went home and researched them. Good work Andy.

Kerry & Will Engagement Shoot - Totternhoe Knolls, Bedfordshire

Totternhoe Knolls is one of my favourite places within an hour of my house. It's a nature reserve set on an old medieval quarry on the chalky Chiltern escarpement, about 10 mins from Dunstable. It's home to no less than 8 different species of orchid, and from the top you have views right across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. Kerry and Will live locally and we met on a glorious sunny evening to get some shots here among the grazing sheep. A spot of gentle climbing was required to get to the top, which gave Will a nice warm up for his footy training that evening!

Jade & Sean Engagement Shoot - Knebworth Park Hertfordshire

Jade & Sean are fortunate to live in a delightful cottage on the boundary of Knebworth Park, and will be my first couple who can walk to their wedding venue from their house! It seemed silly not to go and explore the park for their engagement shoot, and they showed me some parts I hadn't seen before such as the beautiful lake hidden away in the trees! Jade even showed me that she is seemingly immune to stinging nettles. Something every bachelor puts on his wishlist! Another first for a client of mine!

Megan & Karl Engagement Shoot - RSPB The Lodge Sandy, Bedfordshire

With such a variety of stunning landscapes, and a beautiful old house and garden - The RSPB headquarters at Sandy is proving to be my most popular Engagement Shoot location. It's ideally suited for couples from Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, being so close to the A1. Every time I go I manage to get new, different shots. Megan and Karl were an amazing couple to work with, and the fun they had is evident in these shots we managed to capture.

Eloise & Andy Engagement Shoot - Donnington Castle, Newbury, Berkshire

This was my first Engagement Shoot at this location, so I was keen to explore it fully. As it happened we got so carried away at this beautiful historic site, that I took double the normal amount of photos, and with such a photogenic couple, it made deselecting images to edit very difficult indeed! We began by exploring the small castle itself, from close and afar, before heading off down a track at the top of the hill. Eloise and Andy were great in front of the camera and made it so easy for me to get great shots of them. Their October wedding in Bradford-upon-Avon is one I can't wait to shoot!

Hannah & David Engagement Shoot - Hampstead Heath, London

Hannah, David and I met up with me after work on a lovely warm May evening. We parked near the ponds and walked up to Kenwood House, taking full advantage of the glorious warm light on offer as the sun was setting. Even a family of patrolling geese would not prevent us getting the shots we wanted! I was ably assisted by Oli Sandler on the day who was invaluable helping me with equipment and locations. Hannah and David will be tying the knot soon at Tewinbury Farm in September in a Jewish ceremony that I am very much looking forward to capturing!

Lorna & Gary Engagement Shoot - RSPB Sandy, The Lodge, Bedfordshire

The spring evening light at The Lodge can be fantastic, and once again my couple and I were blessed with some lovely warm sun. We explored the main house and gardens, and even managed to find a clump of bluebells in the woods giving us a wide variety of colours in our shots on the day. Gary and Lorna live in and are marrying in  Bedfordshire, so the venue proved ideal for them both. Let's hope for similar weather at the end of August!

Miriam & Craig Engagement Shoot - Barton Hills Springs

I'm very grateful to Miriam & Craig, as I have been to Barton Hills a few times, but had never previously discovered the Woods leading up to the Spring. This gave us a huge variety of stunning backdrops in such a small area, and we were also blessed with some wonderful warm evening light to cap off a lovely evening. I even got Miriam to jump up and down a bit, as I knew being a runner that even after climbing up the hill, she still had it in her!

George & Amelia Engagement Shoot - Heartwood Forest St Albans Hertfordshire

On a lovely spring evening we started out by meeting up at George's parents house in Harpenden, Hertfordshire where the reception is being held, and grabbed a few quick shots there before heading out to nearby Heartwood Forest near St Albans, to catch the bluebells in full bloom. I even got my couple to do a spot of light tree climbing!

Jon & Laura Engagement Shoot - RSPB The Lodge, Sandy

A showery spring evening can often present amazing light if you're prepared to run the gauntlet on getting wet! Thankfully for Jon, Laura and I we timed our trip to the RSPB headquarters at The Lodge, Sandy to perfection. With just under 2 weeks until their big day, Jon and Laura were able to get some last minute posing practice in for me, and we managed to achieve these stunning images as a result.

Agnes & Laurence Engagement Shoot - Cheslyn Gardens, Watford

I met with Agnes, Laurence and their 4 year old little boy, Sawyer on a lovely spring afternoon at the beautiful Cheslyn Gardens in Watford, Hertfordshire. The botanical gardens are immaculately kept and offered us a variety of stunning backdrops for our engagement shoot. Sawyer was very well behaved and even let his Mummy and Daddy get some shots of their own! Only a few weeks to their big day now, and I can't wait to see them all glammed up!
