Barns at Redcoats Wedding Photographer

After seeing how incredible Rafe’s photos were for our friend’s wedding, we knew as soon as we got engaged that we had to have him as our photographer.
In fact, we were so determined that we were pretty much going to base our wedding date around whenever Rafe could do, over anything else, even our choice of venue!
I think the biggest thing that stands out about Rafe’s photography is his ability to capture the moment so perfectly and so purely. Nothing about the process feels forced or put on, and we already have so many beautiful moments captured within our ‘first look’ shots. Not only is Rafe a genius photographer, but he’s also a lovely person, who really gets to know his clients.
If you are currently looking for a wedding photographer, I urge you to book Rafe. You will not regret it.

The Barns at Redcoats….

….is located just 10 minutes from where I live in the beautiful market town of Hitchin, Hertfordshire. It’s without doubt our town’s premium wedding venue, with incredible staff, service and food, and one of the most stunning ceremony barns in the country.

I shoot approx 5 or 6 weddings here per year, both inside the barn, and outside in the garden in front of the grain store. We have use of the wonderful gardens next to the old Farmhouse, and at certain times of the year even the fields behind it!

I’m extremely proud to have such a great relationship with this fantastic venue, and my extensive knowledge of off camera flash really helps throw light into the barn for evening parties at all times of the year!

Take a look at some of my highlights below from The Barns at Redcoats below over the past few years

The Barns at Redcoats is also sometimes referred to as the Farmhouse at Redcoats Green. Constructed as a working farm back in 1771, it was recently refurbished in 2018 and designed as a full time wedding venue. The stunning Cowshed bar and lounge is instantly recognisable in photos with it’s incredibly stylish design blending original features of the barn with a modern, contemporary twist. Located in a small village a few minutes outside of gorgeous Hitchin in Hertfordshire, the venue has easy access to London and the A1M and M1 motorways. If you need additional accommodation for guests beyond the 27 rooms available on site, there is a Premier Inn in the centre of Hitchin, plus also The Sun Hotel, Letchworth Hall Hotel, and Hitchin Priory all within a 10 minute drive.

The infamous ‘Pencil Moustache Portraits’ hang opposite the bar near the entrance, and I’ve taken more than a few Bride & Groom photos underneath them over the years. In the evening the light swings around and shines in through the glass doors near them and lights them perfectly.

Besides the absolutely stunning ceremony barn, one of the other attractions of this wedding venue is the amazing food and drink on offer. Sustainable, organic produce sourced from local suppliers form the core dishes, while the venue retains it’s own organic no dig garden providing the kitchen with fresh fruits and vegetables. The bar staff are highly trained in cocktail making expertise, and wedding couples can choose their own wedding cocktails from an extensive drinks menu.

As a recommended Wedding Photographer at the Barns at Redcoats, I have shot weddings there at all times of year, and know where to go and when for the best light. I’ve shot there in heatwaves, and even snow! The wonderful Grain Store out in the garden makes for a perfect backdrop for Family Group Photos, Sparkler Shots and Confetti Throws (or Bubble Shots!), and the lawn of the garden is perfect for wedding games, and even a Silent Disco!
